Ok, so, as many people in the beauty world are aware, there's a new lip balm by Maybelline that has been recently introduced: Baby Lips. When I first heard of this product, it was shown on a commercial prior to a movie in theaters that my fiance and I had gone to see. This was back in November, I believe. Now, I'm thinking that while Baby Lips had been released in some places, it had not been released locally for me. At least, I didn't see it on shelves for a while. But I digress...
When I first saw the commercial for the product, it seemed a little juvenile, similar to Lip Smackers, which was something I adored in middle school. And while the nice scents and flavors still appeal to me, I usually find myself reaching for something a little more useful, something that either adds good color, shine, or something that really benefits my lips. I consider my lips to be one of my best features. And I have an unnatural obsession with all lip balm products. Well, good ones. But how to know which are the good ones without trying them all? For Christmas, my fiance bought me a new tube of Cherry Carmex and Pomegranate Burt's Bees lip balm as stocking stuffers. He was listening! <3 Speaking of, I have to correct a previous review about the Burt's Bees Pomegranate balm, but that's for a later post. Anyway. Like I said, I was unsure about the concept of this new Baby Lips... however, after seeing the commercials over and over, I began to wonder... after all, it boasted that it was an all new kind of lip hydrating product. What really caught my interest and made me want to try it, though, was stumbling upon a display and finding it completely empty. That's right, all sold out. And not just in one store. Multiple stores were sold out. At this time, I had a mission...
So I went to several other places, in search of this now-coveted lip balm product. Until I found some. They must have just restocked, because they had some of each flavor/variety. Without knowing if it was all they said it was, I chose to buy just one. After some debate, I chose pink punch. This was a particularly busy day, so I didn't immediately try it out until I had been home for a while, putting away groceries and cleaning up the house. Finally, I opened the package, and slid the cap off the tube. I smelled it, of course, and I immediately was glad that I picked pink punch. It smells just like fruit punch cool-aid! I used to drink that all the time as a kid. I applied the product, and was pleasantly surprised. It went on super silky smooth, gliding across my lips. At this point, my lips were actually pretty chapped. I admit, with everything that was going on in my life, I was neglecting my poor lips. But this balm felt really nice. What's even better is that it really is a longer lasting product. I'm not sure it lasts a full 8 hours, as the advertising states, but it definitely has staying power if you aren't eating or drinking. I like to put it on at bed time, especially. And usually, when I wake up, there's still some product on my lips. Don't be afraid of the bright colors of the product, which range from various pinks, purple, and even blue. These are not really pigmented, although some people say that the pink shades are a bit tinted. I have one of the pink shades, and I do notice a little color, but not in a lipstick kind of way, more in the sense that it looks like something is on your lip... so I just blend well until it looks even. That's the only con I have to mention so far. Let's take a deeper look at the product...
Product claim:
8 hour hydration for visibly renewed lips in just 4 weeks. Protects and moisturizes, with SPF 20.
I have been using this product daily for exactly 8 days. I do notice an improvement in the condition of my lips, but nothing drastic at this point. 3 more weeks to go. I'll update again as time progresses. As for what I rate this product, I give it an A-. It would have been an A+, but the issue with being slightly tinted is a bit bothersome. They do have at least two formulas that are supposed to go on clear, but I think they should have made them all clear. The pink for pink punch just isn't the kind of pink most people would want to wear on their lips. But it isn't too obvious, so it's still a good product in my opinion.
