Hi, guys. This is the text review of my YouTube video, titled exactly as this post. Check it out if you haven't already. The point of a text review is to be more detailed, as I can't include everything in the video. If you don't want to read the whole thing (it is pretty long), look for the bold, underlined product names to jump to what you're interested in.
So, not in the same order that I reviewed, but the same products... to start, let's talk about the products I did not like.
First, the blemish healing concealer, specifically called the "blemish kit", retailing for $8 dollars on the ELF website. When I purchased it, I bought it from Target for $5, which is the price I state in the video, but apparently that has changed. I ranked this product with a letter grade of D. Why? Let me tell you...
The claim of this product is that it essentially conceals and heals. It is supposed to be a concealer to help cover blemished while at the same time helping to heal said blemishes. The set I purchased from Target came with a nice bamboo brush, which is why I ranked it D instead of F, but it is not the same brush shown in the display picture on their site. Anyway, even though the brush was awesome, the product was very disappointing. It had absolutely no coverage when used wet or dry. It made the blemish appear dry and flaky (which should not be the case with a good concealer, so I tried it as a wet mix, and there was still no coverage) and that was about it. In addition, after trying it on a couple of troublesome blemishes on my chin, and they did not heal or dry faster. I noticed absolutely no change whatsoever. So the claim that it improves the condition of the skin seems to be a bust as well. It has rave reviews on the website, however, so I really don't know what the deal is. I do not think it was worth the money I spent, but if you're really interested, give it a try, maybe it will work for you.
Next, let's talk about the Summer Picnic Mascara Duo. Cost was $1. I don't know if this product is still being sold, and they do a different "color" for each season. Even though I ordered the summer picnic colors, twice, in fact, I kept receiving the winter version. The only real difference is the tint of color in the mascara. When I ordered this product, I was expecting a hint of color, glitter, or a gloss look. What I got when using the product was essentially nothing. There was just enough glitter to be noticeable if you tried to use it on your brows, but not enough to be noticeable on your lashes. And that was it. No glossy, wet look. No color. Nothing. And the customer service sucked on that order. Luckily, it was the only problem I've had with my orders from ELF. Product itself received a letter grade of F-.
Now, about the products I do like. Which was a lot!
Hypershine Lip Gloss... These are available as a set of 5 glosses in different colors, or as individuals. The set is $5 and the singles are $1. They do have a nice shine to them which seems to last quite a while. My complaint about this product was that when you first apply the lip gloss, it feels sticky/gummy/gunky. But if you leave it alone for a couple minutes, it will begin to feel a lot better, and that redeemed the product for me. I did discover one more complain about this product. I only have two shades, which are pretty similar. My sister had some other shades, and after application, there really isn't much color difference between them. But as a gloss, they're ok. In the video review, I gave them a B grade. I think I might have to reduce it to a C+.
One of the product I really like is the ELF Elements Compact. I really love the idea of customizing my own compact with whatever I want. It has four slots for inserting whatever you want. Sold separately from the compact are the little pans of eyeshadow, lip color, and face color. You can mix and match whatever you like. I currently have 2 eyeshadows, a lip color, and a face color. My biggest bark about this product is that they need more colors. The other slight problem is that the lip product is a bit gummy for my taste. I will probably update my compact with just eye colors in the near future. I also have my eye on the Coastal Scents custom palette, but it's much more expensive. So if you can't spare the cash, the ELF Elements is a great option. Staying power on the eyeshadow and lip products for this is pretty decent. Not the best in the world, but it's great for day time wear. The compact itself is $1 and each of the add-ins are $1. Total cost is $5, compared to the Coastal Scents custom 4 piece palette, retailing at $4.95 for the palette and $3.95 for each add-in. I gave this, as a whole, a grade of A.
Eyeshadow Duos. These are also sold in a set for $5, or as individual pieces. There are two colors, a dark and a light. I have 4 or 5 of these. I like them for easy, simple looks. They're great to just toss in my bag for touch ups during the day. I had a problem with the blue duo I purchase, as the blue looked really vibrant in the pan, but when I put it on, it was not at all the same color or pigment. The other colors seem to be a lot better, but it would have been great to have such a bright blue. I gave these a grade of A.
Natural Radiance Blusher. This is a basic compressed blush. They come in several colors. I have two different shades, a light pink color and a darker color called "Coy". The pigmentation is good, the color can be built up or left light. It goes on really well and doesn't feel or look cakey. These are $1 each. I gave this product an A.
SugarKiss Glitter Eyeliner. I glanced around at the ELF site and could not locate these. But in the case they're still out there, I'll give my two cents. These are glitter liners for your eyes. They're in a liquid form. The brush itself is not a brush, per se, but a little pointy tip. I used the tip to kind of dot along my upper lid. They went on well and stayed on. I've kind of outgrown my liking for chunky glitter, which is what this is. But if you're into it, then these are pretty good. I gave them a grade of B.They were purchased for $1 each.
That's it for this time! I've placed an order for a bunch of new ELF products, so I'll be review them soon, so check back.
